So Cut Up
In this day and age, the credit card is as common, if not more so, than cash. There’s something about charging purchases on plastic that is so easy, so quick, so guilt-free. Perhaps it can be explained by a simple visceral reaction. Spend cash and your wallet gets thinner, swipe your card and it’s immediately returned to its special slot in your wallet. The problem is, we’re training an entire generation of swipe-happy spenders who are very likely to end up in credit card debt. Add that to the daily assaults from credit card companies to sign up for new cards and we’re looking at a nation in serious debt. So here’s the challenge that we propose on this not-particularly-special Wednesday. Go get your wallet. Extract one of your many credit cards. The one with the highest credit limit if you’re feeling particularly bold. Take a pair of sharp scissors and cut the card in half. Voila, one step closer to financial freedom.
Or you could just get a home equity loan.
