Bye-bye Teen Angst
On Sunday, something in the Calgary Herald caught my eye and nearly made me choke on my Lucky Charms. Apparently, teenagers are the happiest people in Canada. Gone are the days of grunge, brooding, and Kurt Cobain. Plaid shirts and ripped jeans? Indicators of good style rather than teen angst. And the biggest problem in their ‘so called lives’? Stress from school.
That says a lot about when teens are the happiest. It’s when school’s out. When they’re hanging out with their friends. When the biggest thing they have to worry about is what movie they’re going to watch later tonight. So if you want to spend some quality time with your teens this summer, you had better make sure it’s something that could convince them to trade in their iphones/blackberries for suitcases. Say, something like catching some waves in Maui, or maybe shopping in the Big Apple, or even safariing in South Africa.
